Maskandi music has shown an impressive growth in the music industry. This music genre was used to be just a kind of music that some people couldn't take seriously or even invest in. It was known as music for old or unclean people in SA as it was mostly played older and uneducated people.
The whole country is mourning the biggest lose in this industry and SABC as whole. This is due to passing of one of the legends who played a very important role in ensuring that this music is growing. The name Bhodloza Ngulubencane Nzimande will forever be remembered by all South Africans. Rest In Peace.
As time went by, some young and fresh people in the era of Mgqumeni and Mtshengiseni added some extra spices to this music and many people developed some love. These two young heroes, with the help of the well-known radio station Dj Tshatha Ngobe and Ngizwe Mchunu, took this music to another level.
The duo has played a very important role in ensuring that this music grows and that it has the reputation it deserves. It was so unfortunate that Mgqumeni and Mtshengiseni died when they were very young. The term 'Amabhinca' was just a name given to people who love this music, and it was believed to be a name that no clever person would like to be called.
People like Khuzani Mpungose and Mthandeni Manqele took over where Ibhova and Indidane had left. The duo took this music to a different level. It was when the country saw a man named Ngizwenkosi Mchunu ensuring that the name 'Amabhinca or Ibhinca' was a very good name given to very good, respected and clean people.
Mthandeni Manqele, the cleanest Maskandi music artist, who has once won more awards when it comes to a clean artist within the industry, works in cooperation with Ngizwe Mchunu to ensure that amabhinca are South African individuals who behave in a way that respects their ancestors, the elderly, themselves and everyone.
They've even invented their own way of wearing things. Their style of wearing clothes differs in such a way that you can tell even by looking at their clothes that this person is Ibhinca. They love their music, they love their artists and they love themselves.
They even created a new word, 'Ingezo,' which differs from each other. They wear Brentwood, carvellas, beautiful shirts, t-shirts, caps, jerseys, skirts and many other clothes that make them look unique and different from other people across the globe.
The term Amabhinca does not only mean Maskandi musicartists only, but supporters too. They play a very important role in ensuring that this music is being sold. When they buy, they do it to an extent that an artist is satisfied. Thanks to those who helped with teaching online purchases of music because CD's are expiring now.
There is evidence that Khuzani Mpungose made over a million rands with his new album titled 'Isipoki esingafi'. One of his songs from the same album was voted as the best song of the year and he broke another record. He became the third Maskandi artist to take the country into the new year after Mroza and Ntencane.
This song, titled 'Ijele' took the country into 2021 as it was played at 12h00 on the 31st of December 2020. It was noted that the votes for this song were 950 957, followed by 'Amageja' by Igcokama with over 300 000 votes.
They have very big and well-known events within this music genre. Impucuzeko Maskandi Festival is one of the biggest event that takes place anually at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. Another events are Indidane Maskandi Festival, Ngizwe Mchunu Maskandi Festival, Amantshontsho and many more.
The term Amabhinca means people who are proud of themselves, who love and respect their culture, who never forget about their homes and background. They prefer to lose their lives than their families. These people will never forget about their parents, friends, relatives, people who played a role in their success.
Interestingly, the number of Maskandi artist is increasing and those who are new comers, most of them are educated. This genre was used to be taken for granted as it was mostly related to uneducated people. Things have changed and the music genre is slowly but surely getting the respect it deserves.
